The way our clay pots are made contribute a great deal to the benefits of cooking with earthenware utensils, which have been listed previously here. The making process is a story in itself.
Made from rich natural clay full of nourishing minerals for the body is from the exotic and vivid Indian state of Kerala, the newly-shaped soft handmade clay product is then soaked in purifying starch water to remove the strong scent of earth for three to four days. Then it is delicately and meticulously scrubbed to remove any impurities to ensure its pristine beauty; a critical step we emphasise upon such that all our clay products are as refined and best quality as can be. When the clay products have finished the cleaning process, they are then put into well-fired wooden ovens to bake under high temperatures to close their pores as well as to become more heat-resistant during cooking. At this stage, this is where the beauty of black earthenware comes through. When the clay pots are given additional firing in the ovens, their beautiful rich reddish hues are transformed into a rich black shade on their surface.
After they have finished baking, the products are laid out in the sun to dry with a coating of natural vegetable oil applied by hand to season them. Finally, they are once again heated in the ovens with another coating of natural vegetable oil, also hand-applied, to be packaged and sent to you.
