Those cast iron utensils may be the holy grail items in your kitchen. No doubt they are valued for being virtually indestructible and highly durable, but cleaning and maintaining them can be a major challenge. Having said that, cast iron cookware can last decades with proper care. So, how to keep cast iron cookware items in top-notch condition even if you end up burning them while preparing your favourite dishes?
You can still use your heirloom cast iron cookware utensils, even if they have caught rust. To clean them and eliminate rust, simply sprinkle the utensil with baking soda and rinse with dishwashing liquid. Use a scrub brush to get rid of debris and rush. Rinse with lukewarm water and dry thoroughly.
New cast iron cookware comes pre-seasoned and ready to use. However, you may need to give some utensils an initial seasoning. For this, wash and pat-dry the cookware. Rub the utensil with oil and then heat it over a medium flame for 5 minutes. Let it dry, and then use a soft wipe to remove excess oil.
This is how you should maintain and clean cast iron cookware to make them work at optimal efficiency while looking their best. Don’t forget to shop our exclusive cast iron collection for your kitchen.
